IVF

Virginia has an opportunity to reclaim its leadership in reproductive medicine by expanding access to in vitro fertilization (IVF) and infertility care, which remain financially out of reach for many families. While the state played a historic role in developing IVF, gaps in insurance coverage have left many Virginians without affordable options for treatment.

Recent policy efforts aim to address this by advancing reforms that would broaden coverage and reduce financial barriers to care. Del. Dan Helmer of Fairfax passed a transformative bill to direct Virginia’s Health Insurance Reform Commission to include IVF and infertility treatment in Virginians’ health plans, reflecting a broader push to make family-building care more accessible.
